Homophones in English

Introduction 

 In this post, I'm going to talk about "homophones in English". What is exactly homophones is?  And what is the most common homophones words in English. Why we need to know homophones in English, etc. So, let us start our lesson now!

What is homophones in English?

When we come to divine what is exactly the word homophone means in English, we can find that it means tow or more English words have the same sound or pronunciation, but are different in meaning and usually in spelling too.   

Example:

air, heir              lie, lye                       allowed, aloud 

When we look to these words, we can find that, it have a same pronunciation, but we know, they are different in meaning. Each word of the represent an individual meaning. So this is exactly what we mean by homophones in English.


Homophones are usually in two words(or groups) e.g{ be, bee }, but we sometimes find that it can be in group, e.g {bight, bite, byte}, {pause, paws, pores, pours}.

When we come up to the word "homophones" , we can find that it consist from two parts:

The first part is " homo" which comes from the Greek word "homos" which means (same). 

The second part is " phone" which comes from the Greek word" phone" which means" sound or voice".
